Just recently, the UK retailer launched a controversial PlayStation VR promotion whereby customers can try out Sony’s new headset at its stores - but only after paying a fee. Customers are asked to book a time and date for a test run before being charged a fee, which varies according to the length of the demonstration. A 10 minute demonstration will cost £5 (USD$6), a 20 minute demo will cost £10 (USD$12), and a 30 minute test will set customers back £15 (USD$18)....

Oleg Ustenko, an economic adviser to the president, told Newsweek on Thursday that Kyiv is “extremely disappointed” in the EU’s fifth package of Russia sanctions, which are pending the approval of EU ambassadors. The measures will not include an EU embargo on Russian fossil fuel imports—which currently earn President Vladimir Putin hundreds of millions of dollars each day—despite the repeated urging of Zelensky and his top officials. European hesitance—led by Germany, along with nations including the Netherlands and Hungary—is intolerable for Kyiv, Ustenko said....

In its daily report, the think tank said Ukrainian successes on the Kharkiv City-Izyum axis are rupturing the Russia information space and eroding conference in the Russian command “to a degree not seen since a failed Russian river crossing in mid-May.” An example it gave was Ukrainian officials announcing on Thursday that forces were 50 kilometers (31 miles) deep into Russian defensive positions north of Izyum in the Kharkiv Oblast – but the Russian side didn’t issue any comment on their progress....

The European Commission agreed on June 17 that Ukraine be granted EU candidate status, which is set to be approved on Thursday by the bloc’s leaders. Ukraine has pivoted towards Brussels for years but four days after Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24, applied to join the EU, which has reacted with expressions of solidarity. With approval from Germany, France, Italy and Romania, the next step is for Ukraine to get unanimous approval for candidate status from all 27 EU members....

When speaking to reporters in Moscow on Thursday, Peskov was asked if he was familiar with a 15-point peace plan proposed by the publication The National Interest last week. The article listed a number of scenarios required for hostilities to end. These included Ukraine becoming permanently neutral, Russia withdrawing its military forces to their pre-invasion positions and Moscow backing Kyiv’s EU aspirations. It also called for Ukraine to recognize Crimea, seized in 2014, as Russian and for Kyiv to reduce its ground forces to no more than 150,000 active-duty troops....

Ukraine’s oldest English-language newspaper, the Kyiv Post highlighted its October 18 headline, which called out “Washington Players” in the quid pro quo Ukraine scandal. The “Shady Cast of Characters” includes reporting on how Giuliani, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, former U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker and former Energy Secretary Rick Perry were all involved in allegedly coercing the Ukrainians into investigating the Bidens. The Kyiv Post’s in-depth coverage of the Ukraine scandal also zeroed in on the “Dirt diggers & intermediaries” including Giuliani associates Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman....

Oleksii Reznikov, Ukraine’s defense minister, tweeted that Ukraine’s military had received a M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). His post didn’t state which country had sent the weapons, but the United Kingdom announced in early June that it was sending an unspecified amount of the launchers to Ukraine. M270 MLRS are self-propelled, multiple rocket launchers. According to Military.com, the systems are designed to produce “a large volume of firepower in a very short time against critical, time-sensitive targets....

Serhiy Cherevaty, a spokesman for Ukraine’s armed forces, was cited by Ukrainian news outlet Ukrinform as saying on television that two ammunition depots were destroyed in the Bakhmut area on Wednesday. “Our rocket forces and artillery hit different targets, first of all, large concentrations of the enemy, personnel, as was the case this time, equipment, as well as warehouses with weapons, ammunition, and fuel,” Cherevaty said. He added: “Today, two warehouses with ammunition were destroyed in the Bakhmut area, one in the Avdiivka area and another in the Lyman area....

On Friday, the Kyiv Independent reported that a Ukrainian defense company, Ukroboronprom, announced that it had completed testing of a long-range drone. “As reported, at the beginning of December, Ukroboronprom was informed about successful tests of a Ukrainian strike drone with a range of more than a thousand kilometers,” the company said in a translated statement. According to the Kyiv Independent, the long-range drone will also be able to carry a payload of up to 75 kilograms or roughly 165 pounds....

Ukraine have been impressive in recent weeks and nearly shocked the Netherlands in their first match of the competition. Shevchenko’s charges hit their stride with a victory against North Macedonia and hold a slight upper hand going into this game. Austria, on the other hand, were poor against the Netherlands earlier this week and cannot afford a similar performance in this fixture. The Austrians have good players in their ranks but will need to present a united front against Ukraine....

Ukrainian diplomat Valeriy Chaly, who was Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States from 2015 to 2019, warned that the newly promised Patriot advanced missile system from the U.S. won’t be enough, and that Ukraine needs more weapons to win the war. Ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s stop in Washington on Wednesday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken unveiled a $1.85 billion military package for Kyiv that included a Patriot missile system....

State Department spokesperson Ned Price said the using a dirty bomb would be “another example of President [Vladimir] Putin’s brutality.” “There would be consequences for Russia, whether it uses a dirty bomb or a nuclear bomb,” he said. “We’ve been very clear about that.” Russia has accused Ukraine of planning to use so-called dirty bombs in a false flag attack to place blame on Russia. Price said the United States rejects this claim from Russia, calling it “patently false disinformation....

Three members of the Makarenko family have been accused of “severely beating a man based on his sexual orientation” in August 2021. The 31-year-old man from Pompano Beach was “permanently blinded” and suffered additional “serious” injuries in the alleged incident, Broward County prosecutors said.
