Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the invasion of Ukraine on February 24 and quickly received criticism from many world leaders who raised concerns about a lack of justification and potential war crimes committed by his troops. In an effort to boost Ukraine’s defense efforts, its allies, including the United States, have sent powerful weapons that have helped hold Russian forces to the eastern part of the country. U.S. intelligence told the Associated Press about the Iranian drones last week, adding they were unsure if Russia has been using the drones but that they are capable of being used for the war....

His comments come as tensions between the countries are increasing away from the frontline as well, after Russia’s FSB security service said it had detained a Ukrainian diplomat for receiving sensitive information from a Russian national. Russia has massed tens of thousands of troops by Ukraine’s eastern border, including deployments of tanks, rocket artillery and air defense systems. Moscow said this is in response to NATO deployments and has suggested the measures are temporary....

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in a Sunday Facebook post that Russia had increased the number of troops in its Belgorod region, northeast of the war-torn city of Kharkiv. The Iskander-M has two guided missiles with a range of upwards of 300 miles and can carry conventional or nuclear warheads. The range would bring Ukrainian cities within range of the missile launchers, including Kharkiv and Poltava....

Concerns about a potential radioactive incident at the Russian-occupied plant, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, have recently escalated while Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of shelling near the plant. During a Tuesday Security Council meeting on a potential plant inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which Russia called for, Ukrainian U.N. Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya accused Russian U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia of spreading “fictitious soundbites....

The Donbas offensive is bad news for the beleaguered peace negotiations, which have been ongoing since shortly after the invasion began on February 24. Talks recently stalled amid accusations of Russian war crimes in occupied areas, and in expectation of the Donbas offensive which may hand either side additional leverage. So far, the talks have secured some humanitarian and evacuation corridors from besieged areas like the devastated city of Mariupol on Ukraine’s Azov Sea coast....

Olga Sukhenko, the mayor of the Ukrainian town of Motyzhyn, which is located near Kyiv, was allegedly shot alongside her husband and son for refusing to comply with Russian demands, the AP reported. The resident who spoke to the news outlet was identified only as a man named Oleg for security purposes. Oleg told the AP that Russian troops targeted local officials across Motyzhyn and murdered those who did not cooperate....

The Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) for the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense (MoD) said demining and research work was carried out on Snake Island, also known as Zmiinyi Island, after it was recaptured earlier this month.
