The trailer focuses on how Nathan and Sam Drake’s relationship will drive Uncharted 4’s narrative, but mixed in among the tense action and flashbacks of the young brothers’ adventures is the debut of a character who could be the game’s primary antagonist. At about the :50 mark in the trailer, a grizzled-sounding character asks Nathan if he’s ready to “seek [his] fortune”, but the comment is made after unlocking a prison cell and sounds much more ominous than optimistic. If Nathan Drake is going to die in Uncharted 4, our money is on this new character being involved somehow.

One of the newer additions to the Uncharted story, Nadine, plays a role in the newest trailer as well, dressed in combat fatigues and getting the jump on Drake in two separate scenes. Information on Nadine has been scarce outside of the Uncharted 4 trailers that Naughty Dog has released up until this point, but it’s clear there is a complicated relationship between the new antagonist and Nathan, as Nadine remarks that it’s a shame the two “aren’t on the same side”.

While Uncharted 4 is going to have the same kind of action-adventure gameplay that has characterized the series’ previous entries, Naughty Dog seems to have a renewed focus on telling the story of Nathan Drake in its closing chapters. Uncharted 4 will have dialogue options for the first time in the series, and these choices are meant to help players develop a deeper emotional connection to the characters tied to Nathan’s fate.

Of course, just what Nathan Drake’s fate will be has been the subject of much discussion for fans of the series and interested bystanders alike. That’s what makes Uncharted 4 one of the most anticipated upcoming PS4 exclusives, and a must-own for fans of the series who are eager to see just what Naughty Dog means by “a thief’s end”.
